Finding library or research jobs

If you are a law librarian, but need to expand your search from just law librarian jobs to librarian jobs in general for any reason, here are some good resources:

  • International Federal of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Listerv – subscribe to this listserv and library jobs around the world will be delivered to your inbox.
  • Chronicle of Higher Education – you can search for academic library jobs here. You may also create a job agent to email you when a job with a particular keyword is posted.
  • Special Libraries Association – library job listings and you can also create a job search to email you with results.
  • Association of Research Libraries – job postings for ARL libraries.
  • American Library Association – library jobs around the country. You can also subscribe to an RSS feed from the site.
  • USA JOBS – the source for federal jobs. Search the database or set up alerts to have jobs emailed to you that contain certain keywords.
  • Check with the library school you attended or one that is in your area. Look on their webpage to see if they have a jobs listserv (I know the University of South Carolina does.)
  • You might also want to check with your undergraduate or graduate career services office.
  • Check your State Library webpage. They might have job listings for libraries around the state, both public and academic.
  • Your state’s government webpage.
  • A college or university near you.

If you have any other ideas, feel free to post them in the comments.

  1. Not sure how local you want to go. For the San Francisco Bay Area, BayNet has a really great job board and NOCALL posts open positions on their listserv.
