I’ve seen postings for law librarians for the LOC get posted over and over for months and I don’t get it: are they having trouble finding qualified candidates? Too picky about the candidates they get? Just not getting enough people applying? Or is it a job that has high turnover?
Anyone here ever apply for this? What’s the deal? Why does this job keep getting posted over and over? So weird. Wish I could apply for it but they wouldn’t consider me experienced enough, I’m sure.
Actually, I’m pretty sure they are different job postings. The LOC is HUGE and has many different divisions so has a need for different people all the time. This job posting is not the same one that was on the blog a couple of months ago, though the title might be similar.
Yeah, I figured it was something like that. They all sound alike to me so I wasn’t sure.
Btw, Christine, I keep forgetting to ask you, do you have an MLS or a JD or both?
I’ve kind of tried to keep my full resume off of the blog since that would seem like shameless self-promotion.
But I have both degrees.
Have you ever applied for one of these positions and/or worked for the LOC? If so, what was it like, if you don’t mind my asking?
I have my JD and am working toward my MLS but worried about how to pay for it and that it may not be worth it by the time I get done.
Though I suppose I’ll at least be qualified to be a regular librarian even if I can”t get a law librarian job.
