Going to AALL? Changing the course of your career?

Then come to the program Law Librarians of Leisure is participating in!

Program Information: D-2: “Mid-Career Changes in Course ”
Time: Monday, July 27, 8:45 am – 9:45 am
Place: WCC Room 146 C
Participants: Susan Catterall, Linda G. Will, Mark E. Estes, Joan L. Axelroth, Dina Dreifuerst, Christine Sellers
Description: Law firm mergers have resulted in the displacement of one firm’s library staff, and short-sighted cost containment measures have resulted in the elimination of library directors and library staffs being pushed under the auspices of other departments.  Now, due to the down-turn in the economy, private law firm librarians are very vulnerable. Some firms are conducting reductions in force and some are terminating individuals for cause. It is time to assess the landscape and decide whether librarians want to remain librarians.  If so, how can they make their positions more secure, keep their skills current and prove their worth?  If not, what is their next career?  For what profession have their skills and experiences prepared them?

  1. That would be great if you could pass on any information from this progam for those of us that will not be able to attend.

    Thanks.

  2. I would also appreciate hearing from this program. I suspect that a number of positions will disappear in the year to come. Our department was called “deadwood” by a partner recently.
