Engineering consulting firm in Old Town Alexandria has an immediate opening for a Research and Web Development Librarian to conduct in-depth research services that will support technical staff.

Major Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth research in support of important internal and customer/client initiatives and projects
  • Identify resources, execute complex searches, and interpret findings based on an understanding of MPR industries and clients
  • Help the Library enhance and substantially expand its proactive services:
    • Establish solid relationships with practice groups and assess their needs
    • Identify emerging engineering and business information critical to the company’s success and disseminate it through electronic media
    • Identify users with common information needs and tailor content and delivery to each user community
  • Redesign the Library ’s intranet site, improving accessibility for employees, using web development background and enabling technologies, such as wikis, blogs, RSS feeds, and intranet development tools
  • Manage, update, and edit the Library ’s intranet site, and collaborate with the Library team regarding site content and design
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure the suitable infrastructure is in place to support the Library’s role

Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science (required)
  • Expertise in searching technical and scientific resources relevant to multiple engineering disciplines, including both publicly-available resources and commercial resources such as Dialog, Lexis/Nexis, Scopus, Dun & Bradstreet, Infinata, and ASM
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and experience with web-development principles and processes, user-centered design, and web technologies; ability to assist in process improvement
  • Working knowledge of CSS, HTML, XML, can work in Dreamweaver and Photoshop, and familiarity with ASP or PHP a plus; training will be provided if necessary
  • Familiarity with Web 2.0 concepts, collaborative tools, and content management a plus
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in corporate information services environment; 1-3 years in web development arena
