The Position: The Director of the Law Library leads a diverse team of law librarians and information professionals in supporting the mission of the law school. The Director acts as a catalyst for the library’s intellectual work and innovation. He/she is a leader in the information community nationally and internationally. The Director reports directly to the Dean of the Law Center, who is an Executive Vice President of Georgetown University. He/she participates with senior administrators in the overall direction of the Law Center. Depending on qualifications and interest, the Director may be considered for a faculty position at the Law Center.

Education and Experience
The successful candidate will be an innovative administrator with experience in leadership and management roles. He/she has a record of accomplishment and experience in a major university law library or comparable experience. The successful candidate thoroughly understands the scope, process and demands of a law school library and the need to align services to changes occurring in the curriculum and profession. The ideal candidate will have a JD and/or advanced degree in library or information science or similar field or equivalent experience in the organization and management of information.

The next Director will be a dynamic leader who can articulate a strong, cohesive vision for others to follow. He/she will be enthusiastic and can invigorate, excite and inspire staff. This person will have the skills to inspire confidence among the Law Library’s internal and external constituencies.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic plan for ensuring that information resources and services are available to support the research and teaching missions of the Law Center. Continuing to align library services with the evolving curriculum, research endeavors, and ongoing initiatives of Georgetown Law.
2. Overseeing a staff of more than 70 including librarians, support staff and other research specialists; a budget of over $8.4 million; and a collection of more than 1.15 million books and manuscripts, special collections and digitized materials.
3. Building strong relationships with the more than 114 full-time faculty members, more than 2500 J.D. and LL.M. students and the staff of the Law Center which includes 14 clinical programs, dozens of research programs and centers, 60 student organizations and ten student journals.
4. Collaborating with the University Librarian and other members of the community of library and information technology professionals at Georgetown University.
