Position: Librarian – San Francisco Circuit Branch Library
Court Personnel System Classification Level: CL 28 or CL 29. For CL 28: promotion potential to CL 29 without competition (within the Ninth Circuit Library system).
Position Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
Salary Range for CL 28: $63,820 – $79,781 (expected starting salary range); $63,820 – $103,722 (full annual salary range)
Salary Range for CL 29: $75,880 – $94,871 (expected starting salary range); $75,880 – $123,359 (full annual salary range)

Location: San Francisco, California.
Representative Duties:
- Performs legal and non-legal research and reference services for judges, court personnel, branch libraries and other library users.
- Provides education and training to court staff on Lexis, Westlaw, the Internet and other research sources.
- Develops training materials, library promotional materials, and research guides.
- Provides orientation and training to large and small groups.
- Performs all required acquisitions functions for library and chambers collections.
- Manages budgets for collections and library operations.
- Supervises professional and technical staff for branch.
- Works as a team member in coordinating services with other branch libraries.- Performs interlibrary loan transactions for court personnel.
For the CL-29 level position:
- Assists Circuit Librarian and Deputy Circuit Librarian in developing, reviewing, and evaluating circuit satellite library programs, policies, methods, and techniques.
- Assists with recruitments for new satellite library employees.
- Represents the Ninth Circuit library system at local, regional, and national meetings.
Required Qualifications:
- M.L.S. degree (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited library school.
- For CL-28: one year of professional law librarian experience.
- For CL-29: two years of professional law librarian experience, with at least one year of supervisory experience.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Applicant must be a United States citizen or eligible to work for the federal government.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Demonstrated skills in reference and legal research using print and electronic resources.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience in speaking to large and small groups.
- Experience in the development of web-based, Web 2.0, and other electronic information delivery services, and knowledge of emerging technologies.
- Skill in the use of Windows-based personal computers and basic office applications software.
- Working knowledge of the principles and standards of cataloging and classification.
- Practical experience in acquisitions, cataloging, and technical services.
- Experience with an Integrated Library System.
- Aptitude for performing functions requiring a high degree of accuracy and careful attention to detail.
- Experience working with people at all levels.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle occasional moderate to heavy physical activity.
