Description: The Washington, D.C. office of Vinson & Elkins LLP seeks a professional Law Librarian to manage the daily operation and services of the law library. The D.C. Librarian performs legal and business research for attorneys in Washington and New York using a variety of electronic and print resources, maintains the library collection and manages library services. Primary duties and responsibilities include: Provide billable research and reference services by using print and online databases to locate information and answers to specific questions; Provide passwords, training, research methodology and costs involved to Attorneys, Paralegals and Summer Associates; Maintain and catalog the library collection utilizing specialized library software; Evaluate, select and purchase online and print library resources appropriate to the Firms’ practice groups; Cancel or revise subscriptions as the practices change; Prepare an annual budget; Process, coding and submitting invoices for payment; Coordinate interlibrary borrowing of materials and arrange for document delivery when needed.
Requirements: Masters of Library Services required. Minimum of 3 years supervisory and law library management experience needed. In depth knowledge of online legal and non-legal services, service providers and library operations. Must possess expertise level of online systems including Westlaw, Lexis, Dialog and other online systems used in Law Firms. Knowledge of MS Office products. Ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Excellent interpersonal skills essential and must be able to handle high pressure situations with tact and diplomacy along with maintaining confidentiality.
