Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young, LLP, located in Philadelphia, PA, seeks a Director of Library and Research Services to support 200 timekeepers across five offices. This is a top level administrative position reporting directly to the Executive Director.
We are seeking an experienced and innovative law librarian with prior managerial experience who is well-grounded in the use of technology as it applies to legal research. S/he will be adept at teaching in-house programs and classes on various aspects of legal research, and as comfortable and effective at managing a department and a budget as s/he is at managing Stradley timekeepers and his/her staff. S/he will be completely client service-oriented, results driven and well organized. S/he will be able to develop and implement strategic objectives tied to the firm’s business goals and client needs. Our ideal candidate will have the ability to work effectively in a team setting and to communicate clearly and effectively. S/he will be able to juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously, focus on both the details and the big picture, and provide strong leadership in steering Stradley Ronon towards the law library of the future.
The candidate who accepts this challenging and exciting position will be able to effectively: Formulate and implement objectives, goals, policies and procedures for the library. Evaluate, recommend and deliver new library products and resources. Recommend the appropriate allocation of library resources, including money, manpower and materials. Use technology to automate or deliver library research services. Provide support, training and guidance in the selection and use of library materials, both to new attorneys and staff and on an ongoing basis. Oversee all library operations. Prepare and manage an annual library budget and maintain financial controls for library expenditures, including cost recovery. Market library services and resources within the firm. Negotiate contracts with vendors. Perform research as needed to support the firm’s clients, timekeepers and business development efforts. Supervise and provide for the professional development of the library staff.
Requirements: 5+ years of law library management experience, including personnel management and budget experience; a Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science from an American Library Association accredited school; excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to write and speak persuasively; strong technological aptitude; proven project and time management skills.
