Assistant Director of Career Services, Chapman University Law School, CA

Description: Reporting to the Director of Career Services, the Assistant Director’s primary responsibilities will include providing a wide range of career counseling, outreach and programming services for Juris Doctor and LL.M. students and alumni including both traditional (i.e., law firm) and non-traditional (including public service, government and business) career development. Develop and implement skills development programs to assist students with job search techniques. Develop and maintain working relationships and coordinate joint programs with student leaders, alumni, faculty and bar associations. Develop and implement mentoring programs between students and attorneys. Develop employer contacts and co-sponsored programs to cultivate expended legal employment opportunities and contacts with law firms, corporations, government agencies and other potential employers nationwide.Develop extensive written career materials for students, including information on areas of practice, alternative careers, public interest, government careers, resume guides, employer contact lists, and bibliographies, among others. Assist in maintaining and enhancing resources for Career Services reference library of publications regarding various types of employment and areas of practice, periodicals, journals, and directories. Review and provide feedback on student resumes, conduct mock interviews, and otherwise assist students on an individual basis to enter the job market. Work with the Director of Career Services and other administrators to maintain interactive student database and to develop and maintain other career services databases for students and graduates.

This position will involve occasional travel and will be required to attend some evening and weekend events.

Qualifications:
Required: Juris Doctor degree and bar license from any state. Strong organizational and time management skills. Must be able to multi-task and balance competing priorities. Ability to communicate in a professional and persuasive manner. Ability to innovate and problem-solve. Solid written, oral communication, presentation and public relations skills. Customer service is the primary responsibility of the Office of Career Services. Constituents include students, alumni, faculty, law school and University administrators, employers and media. Ability to interact positively with and enjoy meeting a wide range of people. Ability to work independently and to exercise considerable independent judgment and discretion and matters pertaining to all aspects of student and graduate employment and career planning. Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with a diverse group of individuals both inside and outside of the university. Ability to use tact and diplomacy and to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Ability to perform successfully and with composure in a demanding environment with numerous challenges.

Desired: A minimum of one year’s experience in a law school career service office, judicial clerkship, law firm or other legal work setting strongly preferred. Counseling experience preferred.
