Description: Reporting to the Assistant Director for Research, Curriculum, and Publication, this position manages the research service activities in the Law Library, including the supervision and training of seven professional librarians. Takes a strong leadership role in defining, developing, promoting, and delivering library research services for the Harvard Law School; participates in the renewed focus to bring Library services in step with our faculty’s research process. Develops and implements new programs and services to provide high quality reference service. Leads efforts to insure effective, timely, and quality service to patrons of the library’s research services by developing assessment tools, exploring new trends, and through the evaluation of current services. Works to coordinate research services with activities in the newly established Curriculum and Publication group. Provides reasearch assistance to Law School faculty, staff, and students through private consultations on original research and by providing coverage at the Reference desk for a limited number of hours every week. Creates a work environment in which professionals continue to grow, learn, innovate and improve within a changing profession. Represents the Library on University committees and at professional meetings. May participate in the selection of print and electronic materials for the collection.
Requirements: ALA-accredited MLS, ABA-accredited JD; experience working at an academic law library and 5+ years’ relevant experience with increasing administrative responsibility and significant supervisory experience; advanced knowledge of print and electronic resources in legal research.
Proven ability to develop and implement service-oriented programs; strong commitment to customer service; excellent planning skills including project management; strong communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills; collaborative ability to work with variety of staff/clientele. Experience providing research assistance in Foreign, Comparative, and International Law preferred.
Occasional evening (until 7:00pm) and weekend hours required.
