Reference Librarian, Charlotte School of Law, NC

Charlotte School of Law (CharlotteLaw) seeks applications for an experienced Reference Librarian.

This position focuses on providing services with both print and electronic resources; especially Law 2.0 resources. Library maintains a collection of over 110,000 physical volumes and volume equivalents in print, electronic, and multimedia and micro-formats. The Library supports the teaching, research, and service activities of CSL, a growing school of over 450 students and nearly 30 faculty. A key component of this position will be to engage as an active partner with faculty and students in improving access to digital and scholarly resources.

The school is a member of The InfiLaw System, a consortium of independent law schools committed to making legal education more responsive to the realities of new career dynamics. Its mission is to establish student-centered, American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law schools in underserved markets that graduate students with practice-ready skills, and achieve true diversity programs aimed at student academic and career success.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities: The incumbent will engage in strategic planning for the legal collection and assists the Associate Dean for Library and Information Services in implementing a unified vision of print and electronic materials.  In addition the incumbent will provide reference service to law students, faculty, and the legal community (includes evening and weekend hours), consult with a variety of library patrons to meet their legal research needs, prepare print and electronic research guides and bibliographies, and occasionally teach basic and advanced legal research through guest lectures and workshops. This position will supervise and manage the Library’s RA program and will be heavily involved in managing and improving the Library’s active faculty liaison program; and collaborate with all library staff to develop, document, and administer policies, workflows, and procedures as well as support and enhance a diverse learning and working environment in a relatively new library.

Qualifications:
Required: ALA-accredited MLIS; J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

Preferred: At least two years of professional experience in a law or academic library; experience teaching legal research; knowledge of trends and practices in research involving the use of electronic resources; familiarity with federated searching, strong customer service focus; demonstrated initiative, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities; strong communication and interpersonal skills, evidenced by the ability to improve the work of a team and maintain positive relationships with staff, faculty, and students; ability to train and motivate staff; project management experience; and/or knowledge of legal materials and legal education; and a commitment to engage in continuing professional development.

This position presently reports directly to the Associate Dean for Library and Information Services.
