Research and Instructional Services Librarian, Drexel University School of Law, PA

The Earle Mack School of Law at Drexel University invites applications for the position of Research and Instructional Services Librarian. This is a full-time position in the Legal Research Center, and it reports to the Head of Research Services.

Review of applications begins December 1, 2009 and will continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing legal and interdisciplinary research support to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Staffing the reference desk. Some evening and weekend reference desk hours may be required.
  • Teaching in the law school’s educational programming.
  • Participating in library’s collection development efforts.
  • Participating in the Legal Research Center’s faculty liaison program.
  • Assisting in developing and delivering the Library’s research support and instructional services.
  • Promoting student and faculty use of electronic information resources.
  • Developing research guides for print and electronic resources.
  • Promoting the Legal Research Center and the School of Law through participation in professional activities.


Required Qualifications:

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited institution
  • JD from an ABA accredited law school
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality and timely research results.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidates who interview will be asked to provide a writing sample.

Desired Qualifications: Public service experience in a law library.

General Information: The Drexel University Earle Mack School of Law opened in August, 2006 and received provisional accreditation from the American Bar Association in February, 2008. Consistent with University’s tradition of co-op education, all Drexel law students have the opportunity to work in co-op placements as part of their legal education. This arrangement provides many opportunities for students to work with law librarians on both academic as well as practice-oriented research issues.
