Description: The Chicago office of Latham & Watkins LLP is seeking a manager for its Information Resources Department, which includes the Library and Records operations. The office offers an active and challenging work environment of 150 attorneys in a global law firm of over 1,900 attorneys. The manager will supervise an experienced IR staff of eight people, all of whom share work assignments among the different operations.
The preferred candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of either the library or records operations and a working knowledge of the other in a law firm environment. They should possess supervisory experience and demonstrate an ability to develop staff, foster a challenging and cooperative team environment, and devise flexible and rewarding work assignments. They should be able to lead others with an ability to articulate goals, formulate plans, coordinate projects and produce results. Their communications style should be forthright, succinct and to the point. They should manifest a natural ability to handle multiple, disparate responsibilities, work energetically, but still promote a congenial and comfortable work environment. A sense of humor is a plus
Department operations are well supported by global resources, with library catalog and records databases shared among all offices of the firm. An extensive collection of internal and external information databases support the library research operations.
Requirements: A Masters of Library Science, Certified Records Manager or a J.D. degree is preferred. At least five years relevant experience in a law firm environment is required. Three years prior supervisory experience also is required.
