Foreign and International Law Librarian, Duke University Law Library, NC

The J. Michael Goodson Law Library, Duke University is seeking an experienced Foreign and International Law Librarian to join our team of skilled law-trained professionals working in a research-oriented, technologically innovative environment. In addition to teaching legal research and other reference responsibilities, the position will be the specialist in foreign and international law resources and provide leadership and instruction in that area.

Required: U.S. MLS and JD degrees from accredited institutions, or non-U.S. equivalents; Candidates should have at least three years legal reference, research, and teaching experience in an academic research law library, and knowledge of foreign, comparative and international law resources and research methods.

The ideal candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, a strong service orientation, interest in working with an active research oriented faculty, interest in new and emerging technologies, a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation and the ability to work in a collegial and cooperative environment. Working knowledge of foreign languages desirable.

The Goodson Law Library with over 640,000 volumes and 25 databases, serves as a resource for legal materials for both the university and the local legal community. The library staff includes eleven librarians with graduate degrees, seven of whom also hold additional degrees in law, and 10 support staff. Recognizing its place at the center of the Law School community, the Goodson Law Library was fully renovated and reopened in the fall of 2008. The project expands the strengths of the library in providing a mix of spaces for study, research and reflection encouraging both collaborative projects and individual quiet study, and integrating technology and library services.

Duke Law provides library and technological support for research and learning using an innovative approach that integrates the programs of the law library and the academic technologies department.

Reference Librarians are non-tenure track members of the Law School faculty at the rank of Lecturing Fellow.
