Head of Reference, Florida Coastal School of Law, FL

The Florida Coastal School of Law is seeking candidates for the position of: Head of Reference.

The Head of Reference reports to the Assistant Director of Public Services and is responsible for all traditional reference services which also include the development and implementation of the library’s reference program policies.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Mentoring and training the Reference staff.
  • Supervising and managing the staffing schedule for the Reference Desk.
  • Participating in the Library Reference Desk rotation, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Developing, marketing, coordinating, and presenting formal and informal library instruction for a full range of available resources.
  • Producing and coordinating the creation of instructional materials (such as pathfinders and guides) to aid library patrons in their research.
  • Working with faculty in support of scholarly/teaching research needs and managing the Library Liaison program.
  • Assisting in the identification and acquisition of resources appropriate for the collection.
  • Assisting patrons in the evaluation and use of print, electronic, microform, and other resources.
  • Actively keeping abreast of current information technology developments with the potential to improve library reference and instructional services.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Master of Library Science and JD required.
  • Significant law library experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience within a leadership/management role.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong service orientation and ability to mentor, guide, counsel and work well with others in a team atmosphere.
  • Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills.
  • Flexible and positive attitude – ability to work well with changing priorities and/or situations.
  • Detailed knowledge of print and electronic legal research tools.
  • Experience in training and instruction of groups required.
  • Strong computer knowledge and ability to adapt to new.
