Overview: The Lawton Chiles Law Library at the University of Florida Levin College of Law seeks an Instructional Services Reference Librarian. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, forward-thinking educator with a sincere love of teaching. Normal work week will include a weekend day or weekday evening shift (two consecutive days off are standard when working weekends).
Responsibilities:
- Researches and develops distance learning alternatives: Monitors developments in distance education; Creates electronic legal research modules; Supports faculty in the creation of distance learning courses and use of course management software; Teaches an online Advanced Legal Research course once a year.
- Participates in the library’s education program: Provides instruction in the use of education technologies via traditional and non-traditional classes. Designs and prepares instructional materials; Teaches basic and advanced legal research (general and specialized) in all formats; Keeps abreast of trends in adult education, bibliographic instruction, and electronic media by reviewing the academic literature and through attendance at conferences.
- Provides bibliographic support to one or more areas of the curriculum. Serves as liaison to journals, as appropriate.
- Identifies relevant projects for digitization.
- Serves as a member of the Reference team, e.g.: Works 10-12 hours per week staffing the Reference Desk; Acts as librarian liaison to approximately 10 faculty; Prepares or maintains research guides for library users.
- Contributes to the UF Libraries, the University, and the profession through substantive involvement in such activities as committee work, research, publishing, and participation in professional organizations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- J.D. and Master’s degree in Library Science from accredited institutions.
- Computer and telecommunication skills, including proficiency with internet and web-based information tools. Skilled in use of Lexis and Westlaw (including Web Courses and TWEN).
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Strong service orientation.
- Team player.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated teaching and communication abilities with a variety of academic audiences.
- Instructional design skills and experience with software applications in support of multiple education platforms, including course management systems and virtual worlds. In particular, experience with Sakai and Adobe Master Suite would be desirable.
- Foreign language skills.
Minimum salary: $50,000. This is a full-time, 40-hour week, library faculty tenure track position.

Environment: The Lawton Chiles Law Library at the University of Florida Levin College of Law is one of the largest libraries in the southeast United States. The library serves faculty, staff and students in the Levin College of Law, and other University of Florida students and faculty, as well as the Florida Bar and the general public. The library’s principal user population includes approximately 60 tenure-track faculty and 40 other full-time faculty members, and approximately 1,000 J.D. and LL.M. students.
