Florida International University is a diverse, public research university serving 38,000 students. Its College of Law was unanimously established by an act of the Florida Legislature in the spring of 2000 and approved by Governor Jeb Bush on June 14, 2000. The College of Law enrolled an inaugural class with strong academic qualifications in August 2002. The College of Law was provisionally accredited by the American Bar Association in 2004 and fully accredited in 2006, the quickest possible time in which a law school may achieve full accreditation under ABA rules.

It will be the mission of the College of Law to recruit a diverse student body with strong academic qualifications and to offer to its students a curriculum which will prepare them for domestic or international professional practice in an increasingly global world of public and private law; international, transnational and comparative law will be important curricular themes. It will also be the mission of the law school to help serve the needs of the urban community of which it is a part.

The members of the College of Law faculty are active scholars and pursue scholarship and research in a broad array of disciplines.

Research and Instructional Technology Librarian: The College of Law Library is accepting applications for the position Research and Instructional Technology Librarian. Florida International University College of Law Library is seeking a dynamic, forward thinking individual to fill the newly created position of Research & Instructional Technology Librarian.

The College of Law is looking for an individual who has an interest in advancing the use of educational technology in both the faculty’s scholarly pursuits and the classroom setting. A demonstrated enthusiasm and experience in promoting and embracing the information resources and emerging technologies of the twenty-first century to both the faculty and the students of the College of Law are essential.

Responsibilities:The Research and Instructional Technology Librarian will play a leading role in assisting the faculty and students of the College of Law in using cutting edge research and educational instruction tools in their classes and in their research. This instruction will be done in formal and informal settings including classroom teaching, presentations, and at the reference desk.

The Librarian will be responsible for designing new instructional programs, including training others on the use of tools such as TWEN, BNA Online, Westlaw/LEXIS, Heinonline, audience response systems, social networking applications and other instructional and research tools. Ideal candidates should be service-oriented and able to provide research and instructional support to faculty and students in cooperation with the other librarians. The Research & Instructional Technology Librarian should be an effective teacher and able to work actively and creatively with the Legal Skills and Values faculty and able to support LSV students’ learning of legal research in all formats.

Required:

  • M.L.S., M.L.I.S., or equivalent from ALA-accredited school, and J.D. degree from an accredited ABA law school
  • Knowledge of legal research in all formats
  • At least one to three years of relevant experience in a law library
  • High quality communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience using computer-based research tools
  • Understanding and familiarity with library related technology.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of web based and social networking applications, including HTML, relevant experience in Web 2.0 technologies, database management and web design
  • Some experience teaching legal research.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary range: $52,000 – $62,000. Salary and benefits will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Other: Start date is flexible, but seek to fill the position by March 1, 2010.
