More employment news

Friday brought the news that unemployment had reached 10.2%, the first time above 10% since the early 1980′s. However, Saturday brought the news that the broader unemployment rate was closer to 17.5%. This number includes those that have stopped looking for work or are working part-time jobs, but would prefer full-time.

Employment in the news

There were a couple of interesting articles in the WSJ last week regarding employment. One highlighted that federal jobs were easy to spot but hard to get. Since there have been many federal jobs posted here, I thought the update might be timely. However, I also think I serve as an example that is it possible to get a federal job.

The WSJ also featured an article regarding the unexpected difficulties of returning to work after being laid off. Personally, I feel so lucky to be back at work. However, there have been some adjustments in moving to a new city and giving up some of my “leisure” time. What I miss most of all? Going grocery shopping in the middle of the day.
